ABOUT THE BLACK LESBIAN NETWORK
Community & Belonging
The Black Lesbian Network (BLN) is more than an organization—it is a transformative movement and intentional space created by a Black lesbian for Black lesbians to connect, celebrate, and thrive. Our mission is to pour back into our own community by uplifting, empowering, and resourcing Black lesbians across all spectrums of identity and experience.
Through cultural programming, creative expression, mentorship, and collaborative partnerships, BLN is building a sustainable ecosystem that centers the brilliance and resilience of Black lesbians. We are dedicated to providing platforms for connection, economic empowerment, and social advancement—ensuring our community not only survives, but thrives.
Opportunity & Empowerment
We recognize the unique challenges that arise from the intersection of being Black, queer, and women of all spectrums. BLN exists to address these realities by creating pathways for visibility, healing, leadership, and community development. We aim to dismantle isolation, counter erasure, and cultivate an environment where every Black lesbian feels seen, valued, and supported.
Care, Wellness & Essential Support
Our logo combines the lesbian flag and the Pan-African flag. Throughout history, there have been many changes to the lesbian flag, and there are various variations. We have chosen to use the more inclusive lesbian flag that represents lesbians of all spectrums, from very masculine, very feminine, trans lesbians, and others. The other half of our logo is the Pan-African flag, which is also more inclusive of people of African descent. The Pan-African flag was established in 1920 by Marcus Garvey, with red representing the blood of ancestors, black representing the race, and green representing the motherland. The combination of the two flags describes the intersectionality that Black LGBTQ+ people carry. Though we do use the Pan-African flag and the lesbian flag, we love all of our LGBTQ+ siblings.
